Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing. Using a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing, the Reiki practitioner draws a “universal energy” through their palms to the client in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.
Reiki treatments are provided in a peaceful, private setting at my treatment room in Carbis Bay. During the session clients will recline on a treatment couch or sit on a kneeling chair and be made comfortable and warm before treatment begins. The client will remain fully clothed throughout the treatment.
During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner will place their hands on or over specific areas of the client’s head, limbs and torso. They will typically hold their hands in each position for between three and ten minutes. If there is a particular issue with a part of the body such as a burn or injury, the practitioner will hold their hands just above the area without physical touch. The purpose is to transfer ‘universal energy’ and bring about balance, promote relaxation and reduce stress and anxiety. During a session, a practitioner may focus the energy on sources of specific conditions or can offer a general wellbeing and balancing energy treatment. Typically a single treatment will last for 45 minutes. The number of sessions will vary depending on what a client wishes to accomplish. Some clients prefer to have one session when they feel they are low on energy or out of balance in their physical and emotional wellbeing, whilst others request a series of sessions to work on a particular issue they wish to address.
Reiki is believed to channel universal energy known as ki, pronounced “chi”, to aid relaxation, support sleep, assist in the body’s natural healing processes, and develops emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing. However, no peer-reviewed scientific studies have empirically proven this. Anecdotal evidence suggests Reiki may induce deep relaxation.
It is important to note that Reiki is a complementary therapy and it is not recommended that it should take the place of medical treatments, but act as a complement to medical treatment.
There are no known contraindications or reasons to avoid Reiki. If you are anxious about what to expect from a Reiki treatment, please ask your practitioner any questions you have or raise any concerns. The practitioner will be able to provide you with further information to support your choice about whether to try Reiki or not.
